Sorry, Lake Cane will not be changing its name to Lake Lava. That is what we call clickbait.. However, the lake is hot, hot, hot. Morning temperatures in the water are in the high 80s and sometimes hitting the low 90s. Not that that is surprising at all because we have all been there and done that. It is summer in Orlando. Congratulations to Orlando’s Underwater Hockey Team, of which almost all the athletes have been Lucky’s Lake Swimmers. They finished eighth place at the National Championships out of 16 teams. Another interesting fact is that 27% of the Orlando team was on Medicare.
The next event at Lucky’s Lake Swim will be in September. On the 26th, that will be the annual zombie swim. Registration options for that swim should be appearing in the next couple of weeks. That is pretty much it. We are now in the dog days of summer, so we will have our normal swim schedule up through Labor Day. On Labor Day, we will swim at 7:45 am, but that is the only time change until the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Fourth of July was a very robust turnout. Of course, everybody was disappointed that Jay Madigan was not barbecuing sardines which is his traditional food for the Fourth of July post lake swim. Jay should be aware that currently in the Florida State Legislature, is House Bill HB 747 2026 which would make offering sardines after an open-water swim a first-degree felony punishable by 1 to 3 years in prison. This would also include fillets of any cold-water fish and Pacific Flying Fish. This bill currently has heavy bipartisan support.
