Canadian national champion Eric Brown made waves (actually he didn’t make too many waves as he seemed to skip across the water) at this year’s Doc Lucky’s Golden Mile, claiming the overall victory in spectacular fashion! Brown, who is not only the reigning Canadian mile champion but also the Canadian Open Water National Champion, will represent Canada at the World Open Water Competition later this year.
He didn’t just win the men’s division—he shattered the open swim record by more than a full minute! Brown clocked in at an astonishing 16:06.74, smashing the previous record of 17:08 set by Ryan Erisman. For his record-breaking performance, Eric took home a cool $1,500, plus an additional $1,000 as the overall men’s (XY) division winner. He is also a member of the UF swimming team, Go Gators!
On the women’s side, Keira Druck of Apopka delivered an outstanding performance, finishing as the top female with a time of 18:53.53 she also broke the 13-14 age group record, but fell short of the women’s course record. Keira earned $1,000 as the winner of the women’s (XX) division.
Congratulations to both Eric and Keira for their incredible achievements and for making this year’s Golden Mile truly unforgettable!
Only one other swimmer was able to break an age group record this year and it was Leaf Dowling for the men’s 11 and 12 year old age group, swimming a time of 20:34.19.
The paucity of records this year was probably due to the digital thermometer reading the water temperature as “hot lava” right before exploding. The thermometer’s death is being ruled a homicide due to forced heat exposure.

Lucky’s Lake Swim Monday Memorial Day swim will be at 7:45 a.m., and then we will return to the normal 6:30 a.m. swims for the rest of the week.
