If you have been paying any attention to social media revolving around Lucky’s Lake Swim, you couldn’t help but be aware that in two weeks we are holding the Inaugural Golden Mile swim race. We all love a great race and fun time, but I would like to remind everyone that the race has an even higher calling than swimming, fun, food, awards, and prizes. The Golden Mile is a charitable event and our only annual fundraiser for the Lake Cane Restoration Society (LCRS).  Some of you may not be aware, but it is the LCRS volunteers that have kept this lake swimmable. Besides helping Lucky with the daily lake swim some of the things LCRS does behind the scenes are monthly water quality testings, native plant reintroductions along the shorelines, Hydrilla control, successful blockage of the city’s “poison pipeline” that would have polluted the lake, artificial reefs for breeding of beneficial species, lake-government liaisons, aiding charitable events such as the Easter Sunrise service, Frogman swim, Midnight Swim, Rowdy & Lucky’s YMCA Scholarship swim and more.

Current registration is a little shy of 200 you won’t be swimming alone.

Here’s How YOU can help.

1.Sign up for the Golden Mile Swim.  Can’t swim on Saturday sign up anyway and do our virtual swim at 5 pm on Friday Evening. (You will get the goody bag with all the swag but not be eligible for awards)  REGISTER  HERE
2. Or sign up and offer your spot to someone that can’t afford to swim like one of our special Olympians. Please email Lucky your intent of doing this so we know to change the registration. LuckyJ@msn.com   (Many thanks to those that are making this generous offer)
3. Please post the information about the golden mile on every facebook swim and triathlon group you are a member of and say you will be swimming.  www.DocLuckysGoldenMile.com

4. WE NEED MORE YOUNG SWIMMERS
If you are a parent or friend of any age group swimmers, please encourage them to sign up for the Golden Mile. We are fighting a rumor that there are no age groups for the younger folks.  There are awards for all age groups 10under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18 plus all the 5year masters’ age groups. We have medals for 1st thru 3rd in all the age groups (see the photos below), and if they are really fast, they have a shot at the real gold medal for the overall fastest.

5. If you would like to volunteer, we have ways you can swim the race and volunteer both!    Sign UP HERE  Volunteers will also get a swag bag.

Check out our awards and prizes page it keeps growing. AWARDS/PRIZES for GOLDEN MILE

Lucky is checking the registration list every day. Everybody that registers gets a good boy or girl stamp next to their name.  He then forwards this good boy/good girl list to Santa. Why take the chance register today.

These are the age group awards. Fantastic medals for 1st thru 3rd. Winners also get GSS national champion certificates and a champion safe swimmer buoys. Everyone gets competitor certificate, patches bumper stickers, shirts and a lot of additional swag. Swim a mile save a lake!
