Big Congrats to Luis Ortiz.  Luis, a long time Lucky’s Lake Swimmer, Friday competed in the National High School Triathlon Championships representing Dr. Phillips High School.  Luis finished 2nd place overall, and he’s just a junior!! You have made us all very proud, Luis!  (Lucky would like to take full credit for all of Luis’s accomplishments for providing him some secret training advice years ago “I studied the sport for years and I told him if he wanted to get better in triathlons he needed to swim, cycle and run faster. If more people took my sage advice they would finish much higher in their races. Thank goodness Luis listened to me.

Congratulations to Lake Highland swimmers Jordan Agliano age (12) and Alix Roy age (16) for setting two new Lucky’s Lake Swim age group records.  Jordan broke the 11-12 yo girls record by nearly 2 minutes with a blistering time of 13:09. Alix broke the 15-16-year-old girls’ record with a time of 12:47 making her one of a handful of swimmers to break the 13-minute barrier and the 2nd fastest overall female swim time. Twenty-two years ago we set a Lucky’s Lake Swim record for total participants in one day at 28 (current record is 474)  it was Jacquie’s and Lucky’s wedding day and they got married in the backyard and “surprisingly” had a swim after the wedding.

What were you doing 22 years ago today? Well these folks were swimming Lucky Lake Swim after Jacquie and Lucky got married. Two people in the photo swam today Lucky and Don Combs. Jacquie planned on swimming that day 22 years ago but decided the wedding dress would slow her down too much, and yes Lucky was wearing a speedo under his tux.

If you are reading this on Saturday, these Lucky’s Lake Swimmers are in the middle of Tampa Bay swimming. I can think of about 100 easier ways to have an excuse to go somewhere just to drink beer. Consider this, anytime you here Heff say “hey I’ve got this great idea” it’s probably not, even when he finishes with “and then we’ll drink beer”.  If you want to follow these guys current swimming and gustatory accomplishments then go to Dave Heffernan’s facebook page.
