Labor Day is almost here (Yay) and that means many will have an opportunity to swim on a weekday that usually can’t. Swim times for this weekend are Friday 6:30, Saturday 7:45 pm, Sunday no swim, Monday (Labor Day) 7:45am. Hope to see everyone here.
I’ve been “Ducked”. I will apologize, now, ahead of time. Chances are you may be “ducked” in the future. No it is not a rogue duck, but Lucky’s duck, Duck. He likes to swim in formation and he will “correct” those that do not fall in line behind him. Lucky is trying to work with him , but his IQ is about 7 (which is pretty good for a duck) so it may be awhile before the behavior is changed. Fortunately, his corrective pecks are not painful and he only weighs about 3 pounds so it’s easy to push him away. So if you feel something crawling up your back and pecking on your head don’t panic (I’ve heard some pretty good screams) it’s not the lake cane monster or a gator, it’s Duck.
When is Lucky going to mow the bottom of the lake? Yes we have a hydrilla problem in the lake. I have been eating some every morning, but I can’t seem to make a dent. For those very old Lucky’s Lake swimmers you may remember the Hydrilla bloom of 1993. There was so much Hydrilla the lake became not pleasurable to swim. The lake was chemically treated at the time and sterile grass eating carp were placed in the lake. The carp are now all dead (old age) and the Hydrilla is back. Hydrilla grows about an inch a day (yes that was not a typo) and several orange county lakes have been choked out by the weed. We are looking into what we can do to keep this from happening. The county’s solution would take several years and we don’t have that much time.
Where’s the video from the Hands Across the Lake. I risked my life and I want to see the dang video! Unfortunately I don’t have most of the video files. As soon as I get them I will edit you out of the video and get it posted. I promise to have it done before Christmas. Please don’t try to pin me down to which Christmas.
