The swim time for Memorial Day is 7:45AM (not the usually 6:30am monday time). We hope to see everyone that is stuck in town here. Saturday’s swim is the normal 7:45am time.

We have a new non-native invader in Lake Cane. The very large channel apple snail. They are harmless to humans “unless you eat them and get rat lung worm encephalitis – usually fatal- so no snacking during swimming”. Also don’t stick them over your jugular vein – they will suck you dry (there is some debate on this second risk, but photos don’t lie and if you see a picture on the internet it has to be true. Channel Apple snails do voraciously eat good aquatic plants, messing up the ecosystem, so if you see them pull them out of the lake. Also their pink egg clutches should be scrapped into the water.
Don’t forget Jack Beattie’s 24th annual Lake Swim Saturday June 1st. See the previous blog post for more information on the event. Ron Davis says he will be attending the event for his 200th time and he wants a T-shirt.

The Special Olympics Swim Team starts it’s season this Tuesday at 7pm at the YMCA Aquatic Center. We can always use more volunteer swimming coaches. Lake swimmers have been very generous with their time volunteering for this great program. Shown in the photo is Sam”1000K club member” working with some of our athletes. Talk to Lucky if you are interested in helping out this season.

Hands across lake cane on August 17th. Save this date. Humans only – no ducks – Be a part of our world record attempt.

We are still looking for more underwater hockey players. Come join us every wed & Fri nights 7:15pm at the YMCA Aquatic Center. You don’t have to be a member to play. See the video.
