ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla – May 12, 2011 – Local attorney and Olympic-trained swimmer Berit Reiss is on another crusade to raise awareness and secure funding for Hospice of the Comforter’s Horizons Bereavement Center with a 1K swim at Lake Cane in Orlando, Fla. On Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 7:45 a.m., Berit will be participating in Lucky’s Lake Swim for open water swimmers and tri-athletes, hosted by Dr. Lucky Meisenheimer, in the hopes of raising $1,000.

“I learned that the licensed mental health counselors at the Horizons Bereavement Center needed funding for their continuing education. Being that I am an educator as well as a professional, I understand the importance of keeping my legal education current. So I decided to raise money for this purpose while furthering my efforts to raise awareness of the grief support services provided to our community at no charge,” explained Berit about her participation in this swim event. Berit benefited from the grief support services provided by Hospice of the Comforter’s Horizons Bereavement Center following the passing of her brother last year.

Dr. Meisenheimer has a following of swimmers and athletes who participate in the daily swims at Lake Cane, except Sunday. He will be blogging about Berit’s fund-raising swim at www.luckyslakeswimblog.com. To date, Berit has raised $800 with the support of local businesses including Windermere Design, Attorney Mark NeJame, Ogden Orthodontics, Zero Gravity Fitness, Serendipity Studios and Southern Realty. To support Berit’s efforts, on-line donations can be made atwww.HospiceoftheComforter.org for the bereavement program.

Berit humbly shared, “I am very proud to be swimming, or running or whatever else I decide to do, for Hospice of the Comforter and the Horizons Bereavement Center. I know that the funds raised on behalf of the Bereavement Center are well-utilized and assist the counselors in many ways. I am exceptionally grateful for all they have done and are doing for me, as well as for the community at large.”
